Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras Review

I own a Canon T1i camera. In looking for a long range lens above 200mm, I read reviews on both Amazon and other commercial sites. I was looking for a lens with image quality above 200mm but did not want to incur the cost of purchasing one of the excellent Canon "L" lenses. Further, I wanted Image Stabilization and USM if possible. During reviews, I found that this zoom lens came as close to a full 5-star rating as any on the market in the non-L category. Since obtaining the lens, it has complimented my two other lenses quite nicely, one being the Canon 18-135mm "walk-around" lens and the super-fine Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS USM non-L lens. The Bokeh is unbelievable; the sharpness of detail is as good as I could have desired. During a recent trip to the Canaveral National Seashore, I was able to get distant photos of Alligators and Roseate Spoonbill birds that were exceedingly sharp. And I was able to use the Canon IS feature to take shots at 250-300mm without a tripod.

I now find that I am spoiled. While I went into this purchase with my eyes wide open, this lens starts at 70mm; my great 17-55mm lens ends at 55mm. While my 18-135mm is a very good walk-around lens, I find myself missing the image quality that I have with my 17-55mm and the 70-300mm lenses. This causes me, so far, to do most of my shooting with the 17-55mm and the 70-300mm creating the need to change lenses too frequently between the 17-55mm and the 70-300mm. I give up the walk-around feature that I enjoyed with the 18-135mm. Perhaps this will change in time and I will again start using my older 18-135mm for the purpose intended - a walk-around lens that I keep on my camera most of the time. But as I said, I have really been spoiled with this new 70-300mm lens.

Received the lens last week and tested it out this weekend. It's smaller and more portable than I expected. In my opinion, it is well-made. The instructions were easy to understand. Note, it requires manual focus (which was not difficult). I've bought and used 500mm lenses for both Canon and Nikon 35mm cameras so that's what I'm comparing the Opteka to. As I expected, the lens works best on a bright day. You can improve shutter speed by going to a higher ISO setting - I tested it using ISO 800 which is what I used to routinely use with big lenses on my 35mm cameras. It's not digitally stabilized so you need to brace yourself or use a tripod to get really sharp photos. That said, I got a number of good shots without bracing myself. I tested it using the fully automatic setting and also on the P #program) seting. On a bright day at ISO 800, most shots were at 1/30 or 1/6o of a second. Pictures were clear, with bright colors. I took some shots of a rotating kite and it shot fast enough to freeze the kite. It's about what you should expect in a lens. You can spend a lot more and get a better lens but for most users this lens ought to be fine.

This battery grip works very well with my Canon EOS Rebel T1i (500D). I have had no problems so far. It is comfortable in my hand and very grippy and adds more space for my fingers to hold onto when I take regular horizontal shots. It can be used with just one battery if you don't have a second one. It makes taking portrait shots easier and more comfortable so you aren't twisting your arms around causing your arms to be unstable. The buttons function as they should, and the shutter release button on the grip almost feels exactly the same as the one on my Canon and can be pressed halfway down for the autofocus. It makes my camera look a lot more professional and it makes things so much easier. Anybody thinking about buying one of the more expensive ones like the Canon BG-E5 should try this out first. Like it says in the description these were made with the same mold as the canon version.

I just received my package today, and I must say I am pretty happy with my purchase. Everything came in brand new condition. The RC-1 works excellent. The tripod...isn't bad....for the price your paying, it's pretty good. It's not the best quality, but if you are a budding photographer, it's good enough. It's about 5 feet and couple inches well. It's not that sturdy, but surprisingly enough it supports the camera well. I am satisfied. It's perfect for me, an aspiring photographer.

Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 Tilt Shift Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Review

I also own the newer Canon 24mm 3.5L mark II tilt shift so I wasn't sure if I'd be happy with this earlier version of a Canon tilt/shift but I wanted to add tilt/shift capabilities in a 90mm. After using it for a few weeks, I must say it is a very impressive lens. While this one does not sport the "L" designation, it is as sharp as my "L" lenses. Color and contrast is very good, and it produces a wonderful bokeh as well. I use it with a full frame Canon 5D mk II. As with my other tilt/shift, it is easier to focus these manual focus lenses using Live View as you can also better view the effects of your tilt/shift combination. The focus confirmation works, but Live View (zoomed in) gives you a more critical focus.

Unlike the 2 newer TS/E models (24mkII and 17), you can not rotate the tilt and shift axis seperately. Your tilt and shift rotate together on this model. I understand you can have Canon rebuild to a 90 degree seperation if you so desire, but it is not something you can do out in the field when using the lens. However, in most shooting situations, this limitation will not be a problem. Also, as with other tilt/shift, it is better to get your exposure readings before making tilt/shift adjustments as the angle can fool your through-the-lens exposure readings. The lens is fairly compact for a tilt/shift model. The tilt/shift adjustment knobs are a bit on the small side but still managable.

I am very favorably impressed with this lens, and while it sells for much less than its newer siblings, it can still hold its own in critical shooting situations. It has a wonderful rendering of images that is very pleasing. This focal length can be used for macro (you can use extension tubes with it), portraits, products, and architecture when shooting from a distance. Because of its outstanding optical quality it can even be used for landscape when you don't need a wide angle. It will also work with the 1.4X extender.

Overall, this is a very versatile lens that can be used in many creative ways. If you are looking for a tilt/shift and don't need wide angle, this lens has exceptional optical quality, sturdy build, and costs much less than the newer models recently introduced. Highly recommended.

No more glasses fogging up with this adjustment lens. Be certain to purchase the rubber Eb frame otherwise it will not fit on the camera. The eye piece extender can also be used with this adjustment lens. Hence no fogging on the glasses and no nose/cheek prints on the LCD.
Also I recommend doing the dioptric adjust on the camera before mounting to the lens extender if you decide to use the extender along with the dioptric adjustment. (The focal points are clearer and easier to see pre-lens extender.
The order of mounting is rubber frame to dioptric adjustment and then these two pieces to the eye extender and then mounted to the camera. (from the camera body extended, dioptric adjustment, Eb rubber frame)

When my wife got the Rebel XT, her parents got her this kit for Christmas. She loves it since it provides a great place to store all the camera and accessories. When I got my Rebel XS, I looked at the starter kit for it and the bag isn't anywhere as nice as this one. We decided that she could always use an extra battery and since I can use the filter and bag we should just get it. The only complaint that I can possible see is that the tripod straps aren't removable, but that's not enough to dock a star. I still give this kit 5 stars!

Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) Review

I bought this, when the first time in 2008 before a trip to Disney. E 'replaced an original Digital Rebel (6,3 MP), who was also a great camera (I've gone down? Until my father). Getting this camera took my photo to a whole new level - this is a great camera. It 'easy to use and allows you to create sharp pictures. The user interface is well done and will be second nature to anyone who has experience with a Canon (even point and shoot). The easiest thing to do is to use in "full auto" modefor a while, 'but you do not get complacent and keep it there for the life of the camera - than trying to compose shots and repeat so you can learn all that this unit is capable of wonderful. At that price point is really too good to pass up.

If you are considering this camera against the point and shoot variety, I found two main advantages of the DSLR to be the lack of delay in the shutter release and, of course, clear images with lenses larger. The first question is oftenof fundamental importance in taking pictures of children and animals - they never stay still for long! Regarding image quality, it is interesting that the producers of "push" the megapixel both the point and shoot. Please do not make the mistake of thinking that a 12 MP point and shoot will come anywhere near the images of this camera (which gives a good target is attached). There really is no comparison. I have several point and shoot cameras (which I also reviewed) and ifTrump on DSLR for the portability (or the ability to immerse in water for the D10), there is no comparison for the quality of images.

I recently upgraded the lenses with the addition of two "L" lenses (which work very well with the XSI) and can upgrade to the new Rebel T2i in the future, both to improve the sensitivity (ISO 6400 on that camera , max 1600 on this) and the ability to record HD video, this camera does not. That said, this camera has served me very well and will continue todo. As another reviewer pointed out, the battery life on this is awesome - I bought a second battery, but have only rarely used (even if I rotate them, of course).

In summary, this is a terrible camera that I recommend to anyone considering "making the leap" to DSLR.
